| This Nat Mon was created in February 2019. Detailed maps are yet to be made available, only general ones can be found. Depending upon what is included, the probable HP should be in the vicinity of Nancy KY, a small town just west of the main battle site. Several locations would be likely to be included in a NM, and the National memorial cemetery, the main battle location and the Zollicoffer cemetery are probably. There are 5 locations where high ground exceeds 1,100' near these areas. One actually goes to 1,144' south of Zollicoffer, at Fairview cemetery, and is known as Last Stand Hill. I placed the spot on the 1,144' spot at the battlefield. A visitor would want to go to all 5 spots over 1,100' if possible. There is no higher ground for a long ways in any direction, about 2 miles NW. The 1,100' contour in Nancy itself is residential, with a house on top. The one a few hundred yards east of the visitor center at the cemetery is in a farmer's field and seems unlikely to be included. The cemetery, Zollicoffer memorial, and Last Stand Hill are almost certain to be included. An additional site South across the Cumberland River is likely to be included, but is at about 800', and is known as the Brown Lanier House at Mill Springs Park. |
