This area of Santa Rosa Island is considered a National Park. Even comes with a stiff $20 fee to enter! The land mass has been disrupted significantly by both hurricanes and man-made construction so determining the high point is very subjective. There are two small natural dunes in the park that show up above elevation 25 just south of Langdon BM but they are no longer there. IN fact the dunes are now underwater swallowed by some hurricane presumably. Langdon BM and Ruins BM imply higher elevations (ruins at 34) but field inspection of both reveal man-made embankments to make fortifications and are not real. The tallest dune formation that appears to be intact is in the area on the north side at over elevation 20. The nearest tallest point on Santa Rosa Island is miserable to determine since most of the island consists of altered dunes and landfills so - set the col at elevation 5 the lowest elation of low dunes between the park and the rest of the island. One can climb the man-made dues that are over 30 feet with steel and concrete structures as part of the tour but setting the HP at an undisturbed dune area around 22 seems like a reasonable approximation |
