The "Hancock Hill - The Desk" is a very popular destination for its historical reason.
The Sul Ross State University in Alpine, TX. adorns the south-bottom slopes of Hancock Hill - its numerous summits, offering great views of the area, can be easily accessed by a network of unmarked trails.
In 1981 3 students looking for a quite place to study carried a steel desk to one of the summits. Over the years "The Desk" has become folk-lore and today students, locals and tourists alike climb to "The Desk". A notebook is in the desk drawer for the vistor's comments - the filled note books are kept in the University's Library.
The original desk is in the lobby of the Library.
