The Lists of John website states that the east summit has been determined higher than the west by 2 feet "using photo pixel analysis." Clearly, this is subject to debate, and, based on entries in the register located on the west summit, has been controversial for three decades or longer.
For now, Peakbagger.com is considering the east peak to be the high point and 2000-foot prominence peak, and the west peak to be the official peak for Sierra Club lists.
The best option for any hiker is to tag both summits and then one can ignore this debate. |
