This odd formation sits out in the swampy gum-cypress waters like a pile of discarded limerock. I thought at first it was left over from a quarry but the rangers explained it was just an isolated outcropping of limestone bluff like the one Florida Caverns is situated in except it is not as massive nor as tall. Still it is a unique geological feature, a mounding of porous limestone above the surface with a prominence of nearly 40 feet above Muddy Creek and the Chipola River. Warning, the area has a protected fenced off area where one of the only known Grey bat hibernation caves is located and protected. Stay clear of the fenced area.
