| A steep knob feature separated by the Black Hill peak by a saddle at elevation 1445 therefore one of the tallest features in the public lands (likely the second tallest peak in the area and only other above 1500 feet) However, the mapping implies that the true Black Hill peak is just outside of the public lands, therefore this peak may be the actual highpoint of the Government Canyon State Natural Area (GCSNA).
Note: Have since verified this the tallest feature in the state lands and thus the true "highpoint" and the elevation provided is from the government mapping information. Be advised,however, that the location is in the "Protected Habitat Environment" for some protected bird species ( I believe I heard it was some sort of warbler) and the area is closed from March to August. Thus, you can only bag the peak in the months of SEPT through FEB (6 month window) |
