This area of Central Park contains a lot of glacial polished metamorphic stone and hilly terrain that was a substantial part of the revolutionary war between the colonists and the British. The feature called "Great Hill" is the obvious highpoint of the large famous Central Park on Manhattan Island.

The connection saddle to the taller ground NNHN to the NW is breached by a ravine at around 35 feet near West 125th to the north.
