The zigzagging band of light-colored cliffs is a striking feature of the Ferris Mountains near Rawlins in south-central Wyoming. That band is the Madison Formation, an upended layer of limestone which has subsequently been eroded into a series of V-notches by a succession of streams coming down from the crest above (2014-09-05).
