A magical late December day with a sea of fog filling the valleys up to around 900 metres as far as the eye could see. Dazzling low sunshine and peaks rising like islands out of the fog all around. All the big peaks incl Mont Blanc as clear as a bell. We parked low down in the valley and walked up the hairpins (in the cold icy shade) to make more of an ascent and combined it with a traverse first from s to n over Pointe e Meribil first then a 293m drop to the col before a fair path up in warm sunshine (changed into shorts) to add the slightly higher peak of Cret des Brottes (Montagne d'Hirmentaz)- a nice rocky side ridge with two 'summits' above the ciffs but the slightly higher real summit is sadly the nearby round dome with the chair lift arrival station hut on the top. Many people about incl families-up on chair lift Had our lunch on a park bench on the grassy summit - a very snowless winter so far!
