This random slope point is the highest point in the Haleakala Wilderness Area, according to the maps and boundaries maintained by the Wilderness.Net web site. However, it appears likely that these boundaries are not correct, since they seem very arbitrary and overly linear, and extend outside the National Park boundary, which is not really possible.
The USGS maps have a wilderness boundary that makes more sense, making Magnetic Peak the Haleakala Wilderness high point and demoting this point to nothing more than a random point of no real significance. |
