| This another popular spot in the Caribe National Forest of El Yunque in Puerto Rico. The USGS map for this area shows it as a named peak and well it should be as although it has little prominence - it has bold shear cliffs on other sides that are spectacular. Like many of the peaks in this area they tend to be connected by these narrow ridges that remove prominence, but these unique rock features that crown the ridges around the main peak are often the more interesting climbs in the area and the park service does have trails to them. The USGS maps and other data have numerous discrepancies as to the peak elevation. The elevation given is from the trail signs within the park itself and i believe to be accurate. I estimate the fall and gain between peaks and my estimate was nearly spot on with the park service but the information interpreted from the USGS map is very far off. La Roca is nearly the same height of El Yunque, but unlike it's more well known neighbor - it is NOT cluttered with radio and cell towers at the top and has the best views of all the peaks accessible by trail.
The col is estimated bu i believe to be within 5 feet. |
