DescriptionComplicated prominence here in that there are three next nearest highest neighbors that all are about the same distance. Looking north Rocky Mountain is elevation 3440 with a saddle at Stanley Gap at elevation 2317 putting this well above a 300 foot prominence peak; but both Cold Mountain 3843 to the SW and Horsepen Mountain to the south area about the same distance away AND share the same saddle at elevation 2380 according to the CALTOPO USFS which has 100 foot intervals and a 2420 which also would give a 300 foot prominence. In addition, my GPS recorded a saddle elevation at the gate around 2427 still giving 300 feet. So using the 2420 as a reasonable key col (but perhaps the one the north is the NNHN) this is a 300 foot prominence peak that should be added to the database in the area. |
