List Description

This is one of the shorter lists shown on this web site, but it ranks high on the toughness scale. Every one of these peaks is a serious technical mountaineering challenge--all have serious glacier travel, 4th or 5th class rock climbing, or both. Many of them have a long approach through deep wilderness, too. Anyone who has completed this list can be considred a grizzled veteran of Washington's North Cascades.

The Mountaineers club places an interesting stipulation on this list--a maximum of three peaks per year is allowed for completers. Perhaps they are trying to discourage people from trying to bite off too many of these tough peaks at once, and, by doing so, putting themselves at risk. Given the very real dangers inherent in climbing major summits ion the North Cascases, this is an understandable provision.
