Rhode Island is divided into 39 "towns", which handle all local government--that is why the five counties are called "pseudo-counties" for this list, since they have no political reality. The counties do exist as a strong, well-established convention for grouping the towns, though, and as such the county high points are a good list.
Sources that were used to help me compile this list include:
- Personal research done prior to 1988.
- Article "New England's Highest Points by County" by Paul Moore, Appalachia magazine, June 15, 1988, p. 68-72.
- Book County High Points by Andy Martin; list compiled 1993 by Andy Martin, reviewed by Fred Lobdell and Roy Schweiker.
