Jim Wickwire is best known for his K2 ascent in 1978 with Lou Reichardt, when they became the first Americans to scale the second highest peak in the world. After summiting, he survived the highest up bivouac to that date, out in the open with no tent or sleeping bag, just below the summit.
Wickwire also did pioneering climbs on Mount Rainier, Denali, and in the Fairweather Range of Alaska.
The ascents listed here were gathered from Wickwire's memoir, Addicted to Danger, plus listings in the Cascade Alpine Guide, Volume 1 and the American Alpine Club web site. |
