Ascent Trip ReportWeirdest hike ever. We wanted to do Erebus because we have already done Sleeping Beauty and did not want it to be the only one left for Lake George 12ster.
Having said that, it was very difficult to find any information about Erebus that did not include a hike up Sleeping Beauty. So, if you are interested in just the one, details are below.
We parked at Hogtown as we were not sure what the condition of the road to Dacy Clearing was. The walk to and from that lot added 3 miles to our hike.
From the Hogtown to Dacy Clearing parking was 1.51 miles, 30 min, car probably could have made it. The first 100 feet are the worst part.
To trail split 2.09 miles, 45 min (go left) rocky, quite a bit of up (relatively).
To split at Bumps pond 2.96 miles, 1:13. Same conditions
Trail junction 3.75 mil 1:39 very wet and mucky in spots, skanky swampy stuff on right
Summit? 4.52 miles, 2 h. Some up-and-down, but honestly not all that much up. More over. There is no indication you are at the alternative summit. Had to consult our GPS and map to make sure we crossed the line. Decided we had no interest in bushwhacking to the true summit as the mosquitoes were awful. Went back the way we came.
