Ascent Trip ReportI had climbed Cowles mountain back in 2009 via the Cowles Mountain Trail from the main trailhead and I remembered it as being one of the busiest trails I had ever been on. Today was a delightfully cool and overcast early summer day and I started out from the Barker Way Trailhead up the Cowles Service Road at about 6:20. This is a full-on dirt road, and on the way up to the Cowles summit I detoured slightly to tag peak 1199. After Cowles, I quickly found the Pyles Peak trail and made my way down.
I made a detour along an official trail to peak 1380, signed as a "view point" and then returning to the main trail made my way up to the Pyles summit, where I met a fine gentleman. Returning to Cowles, I then took the Cowles mountain trail down to its junction with the Barker Way trail, which I then took back to the Cowles Service Road, the junction of which is right before the trailhead. A very nice morning.
