Ascent Trip ReportI approached from the south from paved CR 80, exited to the north after a guy passing me by up high said it was a good road all the way out.
I have to state that Arkansas sucks at labelling roads, either with names or with numbers.....
I drove the county/forest road CR 18up high, didn't write down mileages, but got to crest and found the cutoff road FR 29 mentioned by all that goes uphill westward. I got the correct 4 miles, turned right and up on short FR 30. I am using the numbers from my phone google maps display. No numbers on signs, and it disagrees with DeLorme, and it disagrees with previous TR's. Hmmm.... No 3, no 133 on Haustein's TR's.
I drove up and stopped at high ground, got out and wandered to the NW perhaps 2-300' to high ground, outcrop of rocks which looked man disturbed. This place is COMPLETELY returned to nature now. Thick dense brush and briars. Sucked, but not too bad. Zero view. I left a tiny cairn.
Returned and drove out 1.1, took the left, down 3.5 to main N-S road, followed it 3.8 to where it turned to pavement, another several miles as CR 309 out to the main highway AR-10. Really a pretty easy cohp, albeit you are in the middle of nowhere for quite a few miles. What I did discover is that it is equally easy to approach from S or N. I would say the road is a 2 of 10 4WD grade to near top, not much more than that all the way to where I parked. If wet perhaps stay away for a day. I was off of pavement for maybe an hour and a bit?
