Ascent Trip Report

We left the truck at the Trail Creek Summit "Pack Trail" parking area and followed the trail across Summit Creek to around topo elevation 8080.' At this point we (Wife Martha, 6 y/o son Dagr) went off trail. My plan was for us to access the ridge to the north and work our way up the ridge to gain altitude. I felt if we took the standard trail access all the way past Phi Kappa, then back track to both Phi Kappa and 10585' it would be a waste of time and energy. Needless to say, this route was difficult enough (mostly for my family), and the erratic weather did not help.

To sum it up, the ridge access was not very difficult and bush-whacking wasn't bad. The ridge is completely safe and easy to moderate difficulty. When we got around the 10k elevation level a cloud moved in and we were socked in, thus the panorama that I craved was absent. It also made it a little unnerving for my wife. Accessing Summit Creek Peak from the west on the ridge was fun. There were a few scramble-ish moments (I didn't use my hands) and the views would be awesome on a clear day. After bagging this peak we continued on to Phi Kappa.
