Ascent Trip ReportThanks to the great trip reports from Ben and Brandon, this was an easy 45 minutes in the Laural bushes of Shade Mountain. Found the gravel "Shade Mountain Road" in good shape, no problems for a normal sedan (we were in thegreatexplorers Escape, so we were plenty good). Found the "Diamond Trail" which had a nice pulloff. Quick hike up to the east/west trail, made a right (east) and followed Bens guidance to the western candidate. Found a 5 gallon paint pail sort of near the highest ground, but it wasn't marking anything (geocache or summit register). Stomped around a bit, then headed east for the main point in Peakbagger. This required a bit of bushwhacking around a fairly flat area. Nothing very obvious, other than the ant mounds (lots of them). Total time from parking to back at the car was 40 minutes. |
