Ascent Trip ReportI made this part of a loop hike beginning at the parking area of the Big Branch Wilderness Area, heading south on Old Job Trail to Griffith Lake and then returning via the Long Trail/AT.
The bushwhack to Pete was the least satisfying part of the hike. I left Old Job Trail where the Three Shanties Brook empties into the Lake Brook. My USGS map showed a helpful trail climbing up but it "petered" out after a bit to become a straight bushwhack. Relatively easy but in early summer a bit of thicket - this should be called cripplebush Peak. Not much to say for the summit except there was a register and, to my surprise, another whacker had been there two weeks earlier.
I highly recommend the loop hike described - Griffith Lake is beautiful and there are terrific views from Baker Peak. Altogether 20 miles and if PPP is omitted about 17.
