Ascent Trip Report11.5 miles after turning right onto Old Stage Road from Penrose Blvd I parked in a right-side lot of Gold Camp Road. Two metal signs mark the spot and read:
Rosemont State Wildlife Area Parking No Shooting No Campfires No Camping
I walked back up the road a hundred yards or so to the base of Knights and proceeded to head up its slopes. At times there appeared a trail of sorts, but mostly it was bushwhacking although there was little bush to whack. The climb was somewhat steep but not cluttered with blow downs or scree.
The summit boulder holsters a register marking the 100th anniversary of the Saturday Knights. Was not aware of these Knights who had this peak named for them. I've since googled and have been educated. Got an eyeful just like the view on top.
Took 30 minutes to get to the top of Knights from the car and then it was on to McKinley. |
