Ascent Trip ReportAfter topping out on Peerless and checking out the future route to Horseshoe, I turned my attention to Sheridan. Most climb it from the saddle with Sherman, but since I came up from the south by way of Peerless, I know could avoid the big snow field and cornice between Sherman and Sheridan. I climbed up the southern ridge of medium sized talus. There are some trails meandering up this ridge but they came in and out of snow pack and I stayed off the snow since I was wearing old boots with no tread and no microspikes. The summit has nice views since it has a decent amount of prominence. On the way down I stayed right (south) of the big cornice which was peeling away with large chunks of snow. I thought I had avoided all the snow fields but there was one more to go and it did not look to bad. It was a bit icy but I was able to glissade to the bottom safely.
My entire traverse of Peerless to Sheridan and back was around 2,100 feet of vertical and took around 2.5 hours |
