Ascent Trip ReportClimb 2/6 for the Saranac Ultra 6. This was by far the easiest mountain of the day. From the junction with the McKenzie summit trail, the start of the herd path up the backside of Haystack was a short, easy walk down the Jackrabbit Trail. Once I got to the herd path, it got steeper, but it was still a very moderate climb the whole time. If you're looking to bag this one as part of the Ultra 6, I would highly recommend parking at Whiteface Landing, climbing McKenzie via the Jackrabbit Trail, then climbing Haystack via the herd path (left side of the trail marked by an obvious cairn). It looked like the views would've been nice, but it was still early, so the view was completely obscured by fog. |
