Ascent Trip ReportKelley and I left southern Cal early Saturday, drove to the Hidden Forest trailhead, then backpacked 5 miles up Deadman Canyon to the cabin. Kelley did not want to climb the peak for a second time, so she set up camp while I made the 2.5 mile trek to the peak. I took the DPS standard route up the ridge to the summit, which has a decent use trail most of the way. The next morning, we left early for the truck and then drove home, manageing to avoid some, but not all, of the Sunday Las Vegas traffic on I-15 heading back to southern Cal.
The piped outlet for the spring located next to the cabin was still flowing, probably at one liter per minute. I could see it drying out later in the summer. Also, this is really a nice backpack with many nice campsites located around the cabin in a very beautiful forest.
