Ascent Trip ReportReturning from a hike to Hemphill Bald, I started up this peak and circled it but decided not to climb it because of an impending storm. Hiking westbound on the Hemphill Bald Trail as you approach Buck Knob, there is an obvious side trail that connects to a 4-wheeler track. This leads up to the 5400 contour, where there is a grassy woods road that circles around the south side of the peak. The south ridge looked easily accessible, but then lightning popped nearby, so I decided to return to the main trail and head back to the car. Note that the 5400 road does not connect to the trail. When the road turns south, cross the saddle to the north and bushwhack down to the trail, which is just a couple of hundred yards.
