Ascent Trip Report

Unseen on Peakbagger; I know not what to call these 2 Peaks West of Mont du Lac des Cygnes, let’s name the location Mont du Lac des Cygnes - West Summit.

I would exit Mont du Lac des Cygnes trail approximately 1km from the Parc National Grands-Jardins Service Centre on to an Emergency Evacuation trail which I followed a direct route around 50m to the base of the first rockface.

I headed South facing La Chouenne gradually climbing in elevation, I began to sweep left Eastwards facing Mont du Lac des Cygnes insuring I continually gained elevation. I now swept left and began a snow climb Northwards facing Mont Dôme, cognizant and cautious not to set off an avalanche.

It becomes icy, then bare exposed rock. Continuing North casually moving close along the edge of the cliff; 360 degree is visible, La Chouenne, Mont du Gros Ruisseau, Mont du Gros Ruisseau Sommet Ouest, Mont Gros-Bras which I summited last Monday 5/02/18, Mont du Lac à Moïse, Mont du Lac à Moïse Sommet Nord, Mont Jean-Palardy, Mont Dôme, Mont de l’Ours, etcetera all the way around to Mont du Lac des Cygnes.

Surprisingly, no one seen me regardless I spent about 2 hours pacing the cliffs edge, people’s situational awareness mustn’t be very in-tune, I built an Inuksuk Rock Pile on the North Peak atop a large boulder before descending through a young forest, thick and snowed in above and below, sunk a couple times above the belt line. Didn’t dare knock a single tree, which were nearly 100% all scratched by bear removing the bark, the snow was inevitable, truck loads were dumped on my head as I headed downwards avoiding any unforeseen cliffs relinking with the main trail and running to the truck.

5 hour round trip, only crossing the evacuation trail twice, all other movement being free-lance, I wouldn’t hesitate to repeat this trek.
