Ascent Trip Report

This peak is a sister summit to Glade Mountain and forms part of the rim of the ridge containing the Catawba headwaters near Old Fort, NC. It appears that a private group has created a trail from Black Mountain below to the summit of Evans Knob and Glade Knob. However, the trail ends before the summit. From the summit of Glade Mountain, follow the marked trail steadily down and then rising up again to the peak of Evans Knob. No clear views on top, but the Swannannoa Valley is visible to the west and the deep drop to the Catawba Headwaters sits below the summit. Do not let the topo map fool you. This climb is steep on both ends and there is precious little room for error as the ridge line is only 5-6 feet wide in places. To return to civilization, retrace your steps and descend from Glade Mountain. See my separate post for that description.
