Ascent Trip Report

Admission to the Hualapai Mountain County Park is now $7 for day use. There was no ranger and no change so we left $10 in the envelope.

The main trail in the park is the Potato Patch Loop Trail, 4.3 miles circling around Aspen Peak. Hualapai Mountain is beyond the far side of the loop so we took the clockwise direction then headed down a wide road and up to the peak. There was little brush in the northside gully compared to previous trip reports, and we ere quickly at benchmark on the rock next to the summit boulder. Adam Walker had pointed out an easy class 2 ledge that crossed right to left beneath the summit rock. The flat ledge had good upper handholds and we were quickly at the highest point.

On the return we continued clockwise around the Potato Patch Loop, refilling water bottles from pumps at the Boy Scout Camp. Then we headed up the Aspen Peak Trail to a bench and followed an easy use trail to the summit rocks. It seemed much more established and easier to find than as described in previous reports. At the very top is a low angle friction slab above a small tree, then a step across a small gap to the highest rock.
