Ascent Trip ReportVan and I thought we had secured this county when we originally visited. However, during our visit we reviewed the good sleuthing that John Hasch had done in 2011 and decided the location was still somewhat problematic.
After returning home I downloaded the LiDAR data along with the transformed coordinates for the county line monuments. The county lines as indicated on the USGS topo sheet are in error. The eastern county line is farther east than shown on the USGS map and just slightly north. This shift required a follow up visit to legitimately claim the county.
Based on the correctly shifted county lines, the county highpoint is located along a slight topographic ridge in a field south of Fayetteville-Blanchester Road. The LiDAR analysis gives the point an elevation of 983.5 feet and at a location of 39.257516, -83.984168.
I visited the site this date and easily accessed it from Fayetteville-Blanchester Road. With permission walk a farm trail from an abandoned farmstead at 39.257508, -83.984181 back to the highpoint. The property is unfenced and unposted.
