Ascent Trip Report

The HP in this area is off of U.S. Highway 1 near the County Seat of Sanford and just south of the Quail Ridge Golf Course.

The address for the highpoint is 333 Eakes Road, Sanford, NC. The owner is a surveyor named Dowell "Duke" Eakes. I did not meet Mr. Eakes, but had the pleasure of meeting his wife as I meandered up Eakes Road to find the highest ground near their home. After starting to explain why I was there, she held up her hand, told me I was welcome and pointed me to the HP in front of one of their buildings on this small bluff above the rest of the County. I walked around and took various readings until I was amateurishly sure I found the HP (then confirmed by GPS).

She took the time to ask the why and where and how I was there, as well as my plans for more County high pointing. I thanked her profusely and left the area fulfilled that despite the chaos in the the World today, there are good people all around if you just take the time to meet and listen to them.
