Ascent of Signal Mountain on 2018-05-14
|Date:||Monday, May 14, 2018|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||3360 ft / 1024 m|
Ascent Trip ReportGroton State Forest Road off US 302 was gated, "until Memorial Day" said a local fisherman. I backpacked the 2.3 miles up the southern leg of the road to camp in the parking lot at 2200'. I continued up the road past a bridge and sharp right turn, then left the road at 2300' and bushwhacked straight up the south ridge of Signal. Steep, some brush, not terrible. On the summit, a red register bottle, no cell signal (despite the name) and no view. Return same way. Distance is car to summit to camp. See my separate report for Butterfield Mountain.
