Ascent Trip Reporti used dennis poulin's driving directions, and i'm attaching the track from my drive out. i recommend all terrain tires, clearance, and eventually 4wd for the 5.5mi section heading north from the main road. the rocks are actually worse at the southern end of this road segment, and somewhat better when the road goes uphill, but overall it's a rocky ride. budget 45min one-way for the driving.
the hike is up/down on the ridge... enough up/down that if you were to start from the bataan mine you wouldn't really add much elevation or distance (i estimate 3.2mi 1300' gain round-trip), so keep that in mind if you don't want to proceed driving past that point.
