Ascent Trip Report

GPS (not included here)

Vehicle Parking (1 or 2 max): 47.76577, -70.72338

Today; a) René Richard Nord #2, b) Mont René-Richard - Sommet Nord, c) Mont René-Richard & d) Lac Gérard - South Summit (summit boulder coordinates): 47.741966, -70.762402

Lac Gérard - South Summit was not in the the Peakbagger database therefore an urgency to climb it arose, as the plateau became visible on the near horizonI knew I must reach the top and record the coordinates today, no excuses.

I searched a while and eventually found a narrow spot to cross, River cross: 47.744464,-70.751728 (dry feet) and proceeded.

The landscape opens in all directions, Eastwards especially looking in direction of René-Richard - Sommet Sud Ouest which I visited the following weekend during a successful summit of Lac Gérard - North Summit (also at this time not in the Peakbagger database). I added upon gathering the appropriate coordinates both North and South.

I realized while on around the summit boulder planning my next move the lid on my water reserve of 4 litres had come loose sometime ago and had been dripping all day. I had roughly 5 malt chocolate peanut butter balls and two Old Milwaukee’s left for fuel (haha) so I decided against pushing forward to pioneer Lac Gérard - North Summit. I descended and crossed the river exactly as I had come in than followed as direct a route back to the Toyota as I could passing by only Mont René-Richard - Sommet Nord a second time.

I found a dead female moose along the way.

In my opinion South Summit provides better landscape scenery, and North Summit provides better ascent quality especially during the final ridge approach.
