Ascent Trip ReportRoad is in good shape to the main trailhead. 2WD capable to the creek crossing just before the campground (campground is @ 39.7802, -113.8685). Past the campground, any higher clearance vehicle should be fine to the gate @ 39.7865, -113.8767 (locked between Nov 1st and May 31st, according to the sign). Past the gate, you'll need something with some good tires and 4WD until the first big obstacle (39.7941, -113.8786). you'll need an ATV, dirtbike, or a modified 4WD to get past, but there's a spot for a few SUV's to park here if needed. Past the first obstacle, you'll be able to get to 39.7966, -113.8956 before the road turns and its all hiking trails beyond this point. make sure to stay straight when the road starts to turn here.
Trail needs some maintenance work as there are several spots where there is deadfall, but its manageable. Snow started around 9700 feet. There was some pretty nasty post holing around 11k feet on the north side of the subpeak, so i decided to descend the south ridge to stay where the snow had melted out more. worked out pretty well, but there was a lot of bushwacking below 9,600 feet. |
