Ascent Trip ReportI stopped at a residence on the north side of Ford Mountain at 33.78300 N 87.74062 W. I man there was hesitant at first to allow me access across his property to climb and he even said there is no access to the summit, but for some reason he mellowed. Soon he had me follow him in my car as he drove an ATV to a gate at the end of his property. This was the trailhead for Ford Mountain, but I was actually about the same distance from the summit here as I was back at his house, however, I could follow a road on foot here and reduce a lot of bushwhacking. My GPS indicated .44 air miles to the summit from at this spot. The road was not a direct route, but it did pass close by the coordinates for the benchmark at the south end of the summit plateau, but I did not locate it. At the north end of the mountain and found a deer stand that allowed me an elevated view of the area, but the highest point was not easy to get to. I had a nasty bushwhack to a bump in a forest and I wasn't that comfortable I actually reached the highest point anyway, but I did my best. I was accompanied the entire distance by two Boston Terriers that belonged to the man who led me to the trailhead. My entire roundtrip hike took 54 minutes and I covered a distance of 1.77 miles during this time.
