Ascent Trip Report

I was not optimistic that Ken Oeser's trip report would still be valid since it was written in 2001, but I discovered the Williams still lived in the house at the end of Greasy Cove Road and they had no problem with me parking my car at the jeep road just before their drive located at 34.99500 N 86.29321 W where I was 1.74 air miles from the summit. They just requested I didn't park on their mowed grass there. Although I referred to this access as a jeep road, it deteriorated quickly to the point that I would not want to drive anything up it, but it is fine for hiking. I followed the road for 42 minutes where I was .55 air miles from the summit, but the road started heading in the wrong direction, so I started bushwhacking uphill and reached another road again in just 3 minutes where I was .52 air miles from the summit. I followed this road to within .15 air miles of the summit where there was a sign nailed to a tree that read "Racks and Spurs." From here it was a rough bushwhack to an unimpressive highpoint with no view. I had climbed for 1 hour and 10 minutes and covered 2.34 miles during my ascent. I was accompanied the entire distance by a large, beautiful coon hound, even through the last few hundred feet of the thorny summit bushwhack. I arrived back at my car at sunset, along with my dog hiking companion, after covering 2.36 miles in 57 minutes.
