Ascent Trip ReportThe stated mileage includes my navagational mishaps. I followed GPS track from Valerie Norton, which are good and straight forward. But, still I got off track. About 1/4 mile in is a small meadow with a NFS sign in kiosk. The trail ahead is very nice and inviting...but wrong. The real trail for this peak peels off on a hard left about 10m shy of the kiosk. I walked about 3/8 mile before I realized my error. Back to the kiosk and on the correct trail, the next several hundred meters runs along a dry river bed. Its shaded and very pleasant except for the gnats. Once again, I missed my turn up the ridge. This time I only got about 150m before I wised up. I hadn't noticed it before, but there is a stake with plastic dinosaur and an old basketball on it. The dinosaur theme appears again randomly on the trail. The view is very nice with San Jacinto to the east and the very faint ocean in the distance through the smog.
