Ascent Trip ReportI’m not really a fan of “drive-up” peaks, but I had a day and a half to make the round trip from Greensboro, and hit the high points in NC, SC, GA, and TN. Oh yeah, I was also trying to hit a race in Greenville on Saturday night. So it didn't leave a lot of time for a lot of hiking.
It rained most of the day Saturday, making for an interesting drive and messing with my plans to hit Mount Mitchel on the way here since the Blue Ridge Parkway was shut down due to an expected eight inches of snow. By the time I hit the road heading up to Sassafras Mountain the rain had stopped making for some great views. I was a little disappointed that the very top was closed down due to construction, but I was able to get over to the state line marker and snap a few pictures. The rain picked up again on the drive down to Greenville, messing with my race plans for the evening. |
