Ascent Trip Report

From the peak of Sanitas Mountaineer, we hiked down the main trail and missed the turn off and headed 60 feet down hill before we realized we were heading the wrong direction to tag the actual peak Sanitas. Turning around and bushwhacking we found the trail to Sanitas easily. If you are going downhill fast you are the wrong trail. The Lion Lairs trail is relatively flat to the true peak and there are no views on Sanitas but at least it is a 100 foot prominence peak not that that is very impressive either. We missed the sign explaining no dogs on the Lions Lair trail and so Willie dig summit with me accidently.

One note, on the far NW corner of the park, there is another free parking spot pull out that allows you to hike the peaks from Lions Lair trail (again no dogs allowed). This would give you a much lesser gain to reach the summit and a little less mileage. I estimate that this parking area starts about 500 feet higher up the mountain.
So more solitude, no dogs, and less gain.
