Ascent Trip ReportArrived in town just before dark with a week of horrible weather predicted so we quickly drove our rental up to Upper Skiddaw parking lot. This was a quite an interesting ordeal since I had not driven a stick shift in 20 years or so, and our rental was a stick, with everything backwards on the opposite side of the floor, in a foreign made car I was not familiar with nor had I ever attempted to drive in England before so the added discomfort of trying to shift up the steep hill, passing vehicles on a road not wide enough for two vehicles was the most difficult part of the journey. We parked and ran up the quick mountain and got nice views of Keswick and the lakes below. Latrigg sits right on the edge of the town and is hiked all day long. From town you see people up there all the time. Back to the town and checked in to plan the rest of our stay. Bad weather the rest of the week. This hike is probably the easiest around. Very short (less than a half mile) and little gain but great views. I was able to see the route up Skiddaw with its tantalizing greater than 2000 feet of prominence and decided I could get up it in the morning even in bad weather. |
