Ascent Trip Report

For my final winter hike of the season, I did Saint Anne's Peak as I continue to chip away at the Catskill 102 Highest List. Kelly Porter joined me for what I thought would be a relatively easy day and was originally planning on doing Westkill as well.

I parked at Mink Hollow and started up the Devil's Path. The trail was broken but snowshoes were definitely needed. I was still sinking quite a bit as it was post-holed badly. Once the bushwhack to North Dome departed to the west, the Devil's Path was no longer broken. It took almost 3 hours of breaking trail after that to summit Saint Anne's. I almost turned around a few times. I was snowshoeing up to my waist and we were taking turns. The wind was also punishing. The actual summit is a three minute bushwhack off the trail and using my GPS and my eyesight I'm sure I stood on it.

The wind was so bad, our tracks were mostly covered, so the descent was no cake walk. The 5.2 mile hike took 7.5 hours. Never made it to Westkill.
