Ascent Trip Report

Keith’s DPS list finish! Great crowd, great peak. We took the less-ascended route from Quail Spring. Sandy but manageable. Much better on the descent... John and I arrived at the summit block ahead of the rest of the group so we broke out the rope and I slipped on my rock shoes. After our 2011 failure I was leaving nothing to chance... I climbed on to the slab about 15 ft left of the chimney that most seem to take. Easy in rock shoes and a lot more comfortable than jamming into the crack I presume. Keith arrived with the rack just as I topped out so I pulled it up to sling the summit block to belay the group up. John was up next, followed by Sam. Keith soloed it while Sam was getting off belay and I lowered both Sam and John, who were in shorts and chilled on this cool, breezy day. All 3 took the chimney route. Last up was Laura who patiently waited for Sam and John to lower off. She followed my face/slab route. After lowering them both, John sent the register up to me on top and I climbed down to the top of the wide crack to rap down to the bottom. We all found a non-windy spot below the summit for lunch before our easy descent to the cars. We checked out the Geology Cabin and Warm Springs resort: both interesting and worth the visit. Thankfully we did not need the blowtorch to melt ice on the summit block... Pics
