Ascent Trip ReportA road walk to 2 areas ..... 2.2 miles, 250' gain, 1 hour RT.
Used the directions in Bill Schuler TR which are still good, ground conditions however have changed some, requiring an update. One must read Bill.
This TR addresses the dirt track and property ownership, also there is no longer a bushwhack to Area 2, its a road walk all the way.
The dirt track is heavily rutted and not driveable with our dodge caravan, requires high clearance. The recommended TH and the hiking directions are all as per following. We had abt 2-3" of snow last night so conditions were very wet.
We parked at Bill's " ......Mile Marker 4.5 Dirt track - long driveway on the left - go straight on the dirt track". This was our TH (37.41295,-86.10099).
I walked the wet/rutted dirt road northbound abt 300 yds to a number of house trailers on the right and found no one home, as was the case at another trailer 50 yds ahead on the left. Posted signs only on the left side of the road .
I climbed/continued to Bill's locked gate, signed "No Trespassing", at .6 miles from the TH (37.41999,-86.10634). From here on the road stays in a midst of a nice clearing.
AREA 1 is 250 yds ahead, less than 100 yds left of the road (just past a small house with no one home).
I continued on the road as it heads northeast past a few buildings (no one home at the house) .3 miles to AREA 2 in a clearing (abt 1.1 miles from my TH).
I descended back to the TH without seeing anyone, but as we were about to leave after getting cleaned up, a high clearance vehicle arrived on his way up. Mr Turner, who has been living here for 18 years lives at the first trailers to the right and owns 40 acres of land to the right of the road. His land is not posted unlike the land across the road.
He is now the only person living off of this dirt road, all of the others, including the 2 past the gate, have passed away - doesn't know what the family will do with the land. Mr Turner is a very friendly nice guy, said a number of people have been here for the same thing.
