Ascent Trip ReportThis was a tough one. Sara and I began behind the Willey House off 302 on the flume trail back there and connected up with the Ethan Pond Trail then to the Willey Ridge Trail. There was a light snow falling throughout the hike which slowed us down some but the real bitch kitty was the final half mile to the summit of Willey which was extremely slow, extremely icey an time consuming - 90 minutes for the final push as we required our Crampons and Ice Axes to navigate the steeper sections of this part of the trail. We did finally succeed in reaching the peak after a total of 4 hours and proceeded to go to Field. By then, both of us were pretty beat up from the initial ascent and chose to forego Mt.Tom on this trip. We also didn't do the return trip down but instead chose to go down the mountain past Mt. Avalon and walk the nearly 3 miles to the car on route 302.
