Ascent Trip ReportI skied up on BC ski gear with skins. Took about an hour to the top. Parked at the corner of 306 (road to Rochford from Deerfield) and 189. Across the road from a ranch. 189 was not plowed or tracked, just fresh snow. After a short distance, took left on 189 1B, then up that road to the intersection with 189 1C. Then direct to the saddle between Castle Rock and South Castle Rock, at 0593485, 4877682 UTM. Then South along ridge to the top. There was quite a bit of snow, I was able to ski over a lot of downed logs. From South Castle Rock, you can go North along the ridge and tag Castle Rock and Nipple Butte in the same trip. I started to do this, but some snowy weather came in from the West and the wind got strong. Visibility went way down, I was worried I would not be able to see to get back. It did look like there would be some scrambling involved as the ridge gets very narrow on the way to Nipple. From the ridge, you can come off to the East most anywhere and catch 189 1C back to the car. This is a neat area, tends to have pretty good snow conditions.
