Ascent of Thimble Peak on 2018-03-04Date: | Sunday, March 4, 2018 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Thimble Peak | Location: | USA-Arizona | Elevation: | 5323 ft / 1622 m |
Ascent Trip ReportStarted at Prison Camp down Arizona Trail to the Bear Canyon short cut. At the thimble peak meadow, you head west up the ridge following the cairns and trail to the peak. The South summit is the High point, approaching from the west side there is a 4th class bouldery gully. At the top head right to a chain ladder, which looks solid however I did not use it. I climbed up the 10 ft 5th class section to the right of the ladder using the bolt and a short rope.
There were two rappel stations. If you want to rappel the gully section a 100 ft rope is needed.
Went back to main trail and down bear canyon to the trail head. |
