Ascent Trip ReportExcellent trail all the way to Villager, almost like a maintained trail. Going to Rabbit involves a fainter trail, but you'd have to completely lose your wits to get lost here. Of course, people do completely lose their wits here, so don't be stupid. Don't come up here in August, without water/food, if you're a beginner hiker, or without having done any research on this route.
If you're in shape, this is not as hard as people say it is. My soreness was gone two days after the hike. There is no scrambling (other than some easy class 1.15d rocks near the top of Rabbit that may require a larger gait), and generally nothing to tire you out more than the general strains of hiking long distances.
The only steep part is the last 800 ft to the top of Rabbit. Going back up to Villager a second time can be hard if you don't pace yourself. Ultimately, the real difficulty with this hike is the distance, which will leave you really tired at the end. Bring caffeine for the drive home.
