Ascent Trip Report

*** HPS Led Hike by Peter and Ignacia Doggett ***

Parked of highway 22 near call box S22-319. Started in the dark with headlamps following a well ducked use trail along the desert floor that the Doggetts had surveyed a few days prior (adding ducks to make the trail easier to follow in the dark). Eventually reached the ridgeline and followed that to the summit of Villager. The trail was steep and on loose ground, so hiking poles are a must. After reaching Villager, we signed the register and took a short break before continuing the hike. Along the way to Rabbit, we descended into one saddle after another, loosing and gaining elevation with each one. Eventually we reached Rabbit for a much needed rest break. Most of the group dreaded the trek back, but eventually we passed Villager and were about halfway down when we had to bring out the headlamps again. We reached the cars after almost 16 hours of hiking to end a very long day of hiking.

The summit of Rabbit was nice and the views great, but there are much better peaks with much shorter hikes.
