Ascent Trip Report

From the Bucklin TH on Wheelerville Road, I followed the snowmobile trail south, and went left when the Catamount Trail/snowmobile trail branched off to the right. I continued on the trail on mostly unbroken snow with filled-in older snowshoe or ski tracks. Then I branched off and took a direct line up Mendon via the NW ridge. Next I followed the ridge east, passing over the top of Little Killington, and met up with the AT, which showed no signs of prior winter travel. I took the AT north toward Killington, and had to pay close attention to the white blazes in order to stay on the trail. I took the 0.2 mile spur trail to the summit of Killington, and it was steep and fairly slick near the top. I enjoyed the summit view for as long as I could endure the strong, cold wind, and it was nice looking back toward Mendon Peak. Then I descended on the Bucklin Trail to my starting point. This loop was a little over 9 miles.
